Spectacular year for the Department of Anesthesiology
This is an exciting time in our specialty! At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we are proud of the numerous transformational initiatives in place throughout our department as we continually strive to lead improvements in the perioperative care of our patients.
Our education mission is foundational to our department, as it is throughout The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The members of our diverse and well-trained faculty are deeply invested in teaching and training our medical students, residents and fellows. We offer ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care medicine, obstetric anesthesiology and pain medicine. We also offer fellowships in neuroanesthesiology, acute pain and regional anesthesiology, and ambulatory anesthesiology/business and leadership. We have a state-of-the-art medical simulation center that is imbedded into our curriculum.
In the arena of patient care, the Department of Anesthesiology boasts a strong team of faculty with training and expertise across the entire spectrum of perioperative care. We provide leading edge care in preoperative assessment, acute and chronic pain management, neuroanesthesiology, obstetrical anesthesiology, critical care and cardiothoracic anesthesiology and manage a tremendous breadth of surgical subspecialty and procedural care, which also provides a rich environment for teaching and research.
With respect to research, we are extremely proud of the large number of active clinical and basic science protocols in place in the department, the fruits of which are published in high impact journals. As we advance scientific knowledge in our specialty, we also guide and mentor our residents, fellows and medical students in the realm of scholarly inquiry, as we train the next generation of physician anesthesiologists.
Our department is literally teeming with nationally and internationally recognized anesthesiologists and our national reputation continues to grow as a result. Our department has much in which it can be proud and we are excited to pursue what lies ahead.
